The 635 km long Sos'va (Russian Сосьва ) is the true source of the river Tavda in the eastern Urals and West Siberian Plain (Russia, Asia).
Geography
The Sos'va arises on the eastern flank of the Ural main ridge of the two short (under 20 miles) headwaters Great ( Bolschaja ) and Small ( Malaya ) Sos'va that flow down from about 600-700 m height. First, it wraps around - always on the territory of Sverdlovsk Oblast - first in a trackside as narrow and steep valley several ridges of the Urals in the area of Deneschkin Kamen (1492 m). Next the Sos'va flows in a south-, later a northeasterly direction through the western part of the West Siberian Plain, to unite finally, 12 km north of the urban-type settlement ( and Rajonverwaltungszentrum ) Gari with the Loswa to Tavda ( at 56 m above sea level. The catchment area of 24,700 km ² comprises Sos'va. In the settlement Sos'va, about 140 river miles above the mouth, the average water flow is 123 m³ / s ( minimum in March with 17 m³ / s, maximum in June with 453 m³ / s). The water level of the middle and lower reaches fluctuates during the year by up to 5-6 meters. The Sos'va freezes from November to April.
In the area of the middle reaches is a few miles west of the river, tributary of the River Kakwa, the city Serov.
