Kushva

Kushva (Russian Кушва ) is a town in Sverdlovsk Oblast (Russia) with 30,167 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city lies on the eastern edge of the Ural Mountains, about 170 km north of the Oblasthauptstadt Yekaterinburg, in the headwaters of the river Tura. The climate is continental.

The city is the Kushva Oblast administratively subordinated directly. The city's 12 villages with a total population of 12,424 and the city Verkhnyaya Tura ( 10,568 inhabitants ) assumes that the total population of the administrative unit " city Kushva " is 56 207 (calculated 2009).

Kushva is located on the railway line opened in 1878 Perm - Yekaterinburg, the Urals former Mine Train ( Уральская Горнозаводская железная дорога / Ural Gornosawodskaja schelesnaja doroga ). Here also branches off the route opened in 1906 by Serov, the former Bogoslowsker Railway ( Богословская железная дорога / Bogoslowskaja schelesnaja doroga ). The station of the city is called Goroblagodatskaja.

History

In place of the present city in 1735 mining, iron and steel and settlement arose on the basis of the degradation of the major iron ore deposit Gora Blagodat east of the village. The term Blagodat Gora ( Гора Благодать, blessing or Gnadenberg ) refers to the religious concept of benediction and grace, even in connection with the name of the then ruling Russian Empress Anna Ivanovna ( cf. Anna Hebrew among others for grace). Cottage and location were named after the pent-up here Kushva, a small right-hand tributary of the Tura, Kuschwinski Zavod ( Кушвинский завод, komi - permjakisch kusch for bald spot, wa for flow).

In 1801 the city administrative center of the surrounding mining area was ( " mountain circle"), but only received city rights in 1925, despite its importance. In 1926 the name was changed from Kuschwinski Sawod in Kushva.

Culture and sights

Industrial architecture of the 19th century has been preserved to a greater extent. The city has a museum of local history.

Economy

The iron ore mining and processing at the Gora Blagodat plays the central role in the economic life of the city even today. From this deposit with Gesamterzvorräten of several hundred million tons of iron and steel metallurgy of the Middle and Northern Urals is mainly supplied.

There are also mechanical (including railway equipment ), wood processing and building materials industry (gravel ).
