Rezh

Resch (Russian Реж ) is a town in Sverdlovsk Oblast (Russia) with 38 215 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located east of the Middle Urals, about 80 km northeast of Oblasthauptstadt Yekaterinburg on the eponymous river Resch, the right- source river of Niza in the river system of the Ob.

Resch forms an urban district of the same name.

The town lies on the railway line which opened in 1916 Yekaterinburg - Tavda.

History

Resch was born in 1773 in connection with the establishment of an ironworks, which was known for its ironwork products until the beginning of the 20th century. 1943, the site of a town. In Resch the POW camp consisted of 523 German prisoners of war of World War II.

Culture and sights

In the center of Resch a part of the historic wooden buildings is obtained, also the Church of John the Baptist on the Orlowberg ( церковь Иоанна Предтечи на Орловой горе / Tserkov Ioanna Predtechi na Orlowoi gore ) and the Church of Christ's birth ( церковь Рождества Христова / Tserkov Roschdestwa Christowa ).

The city has a Historical Museum.

Economy

Near the town of Nickel ores are promoted on the basis of the Reschnikel AG in the city operates a nickel refinery. There is also a machine factory and enterprises of the timber and construction industries.

Resch is surrounded by an agricultural area.
