Kamyshlov

Kamyshlov (Russian Камышлов ) is a town in Sverdlovsk Oblast (Russia) with 26,870 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located in the west of the West Siberian Plain, about 140 km east of the Oblasthauptstadt Yekaterinburg on the left bank of the Pyshma, a right tributary of the Tura River in the system of the Ob.

Kamyshlov is the center of a district of the same city.

The town lies on the railway line opened in 1885 Sverdlovsk - Tyumen ( 1913 to a section of the northern route of the Trans-Siberian Railway was the continuation of Tyumen to Omsk ).

History

The town was founded in 1668 as Ostrog Kamyschewski, here named after the opening into the river Pyshma Kamyschlowka or Kamyshenka ( from Tatar and Russian word for texting ). As of 1687, the place was called Sloboda Kamyschlowskaja. From the 18th century the western section of the Siberian tract ran through the town, in particular developed into an important commercial center for grain and this remained (see coat of arms ) even up to the beginning of the 20th century. 1781 was the site of a town.

As occurred Kyschtym the accident in the Mayak nuclear facility in the fall of 1957, reached foothills of the radioactive cloud the city.

Culture and sights

In Kamzschlow various buildings from the 19th century and early 20th century have been preserved, so the Intercession Intercession Cathedral ( Покровский собор / Pokrovsky Sobor ), the building of the printing press and the former high school, the Art Nouveau reception hall of the station and merchant houses along the Karl- Marx-Straße ( Ulitsa Karla Marksa ).

The city has a history and heritage museum.

Seven kilometers west of the city is opened in 1871 balneologically - climatic health resort Obukhovo.
