Volleyball at the 2012 Summer Paralympics

In the Summer Paralympics in London 2012 will be held from August 30 to September 8 Exhibition Centre London two competitions in sitting volleyball, each a tournament for women and men.

Mode

Each competition consists of a preliminary round and placement games. When dividing the groups, the hosts were set. The other teams were divided into the groups according to their rankings in the current world rankings of the World Federation WOVD.

In the men's tournament occurred at ten teams. In the preliminary round, there are two groups of five teams playing everyone against everyone. The top four teams in each group qualify for the quarter-finals. Then it goes in a simple knockout system on to the final. In the women play eight teams that are divided into the first round to two groups. The group winners and runners reach the semifinals. The winners of the semi-finals will play for the gold medal.

The cadres of the teams consist of eleven players or players each. The teams are made up of disabled ( "disabled" ) and less restricted ( " minimally disabled" ) athletes. On the pitch, to sit with less disability during the game use the same station.

Qualification

Host Great Britain was set as host. At the World Championships 2010, qualified in each of the three best teams in London. Defending champion and world champion Iran and Bosnia and Egypt these places secured at the men, while China won the World Cup final of the women against the United States. Another five male and four female teams reached the Paralympics over continental qualification tournaments. The last participant for the men's tournament was arrived at Intercontinental Cup in Cairo.
