Vosne-Romanée

Vosne -Romanée is a commune and a wine-growing village with 389 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011), in Burgundy, in the department of Côte- d'Or. The municipality is situated approximately 18 km south of Dijon and bordering the wine-growing villages Nuits -Saint -Georges and Vougeot. Just outside the small town grow some of the most expensive and sought-after red wines in the world. In the village is also the seat of the winery Domaine de la Romanée- Conti, whose reputation the church has made ​​known worldwide. The name " Romanée " was added to the place name Vosne in 1866.

Viniculture

The vineyards of Vosne -Romanée are considered precious and lasting value. They should already have been created in Roman times. Since the 13th century there is a tradition and continuity in the production of high-quality wines.

The appellation Vosne -Romanée (founded in 1936) has a total vineyard area of 156 hectares. Of the classified as Vosne- Romanée Village documents form the basis of the area. A higher category represent the 16 Premier Cru sites ( 57 hectares) represents the six declared as Grand Crus vineyards are the highest quality level of this classification.
