VR Class Dm12

The DM12 series of the Finnish State Railways VR - Yhtymä is a diesel railcar for routes with low passenger traffic. In August 2001, 16 pieces with an option for another 20 vehicles in the Czech Škoda Vagonka were ordered.

Equipment

A DM12 - drive car has 63 seats, of which 60 regular seats and three folding seats are. In addition, there are 60 standing places, so that the vehicle can accommodate a maximum of 123 passengers. For the commuter traffic exceeding three railcars can be coupled.

The seats are positioned in two rows, so that a whole aisle of the passenger compartment is accessible. Near the doors has spaces for prams and bicycles, and a disabled toilet. About the seats racks for suitcases and other luggage are available. Places for travelers with pets there are in the compartment at the end of the car. Wheelchair lift is in addition to parking spaces near the doors yet, as many platforms are not accessible. In each DM12 unit, there are several validators for tickets.

Areas of application

The DM12 series is designed for routes with low passenger traffic. Thus, compounds that do not cover costs with -drawn by locomotives trains, are operated economically. They are accountable to the trains used to use quieter, produce fewer emissions and cheaper fuel consumption.

On 17 May 2005, the marketing of the first vehicles was included on the route between the cities of Finland Pieksämäki and Joensuu. In November of the same year the combination of Joensuu followed by Nurmes, in December 2005, the use of DM12 trains began on the route between Ylivieska and Iisalmi. As of February of the following year the traffic between Savonlinna and Parikkala was settled with DM12 vehicles. In March 2006, followed Tampere Haapamäki and Karis / Karis - Hanko.

Between Jyväskylä and Seinäjoki commuted from September 2006 to May 31, 2007 DM12 vehicles. The traffic with this series but was reinstated because the capacity of a DM12 often not sufficient. Because of the high level of convenience has been driven back at the weekend during the DM12 - use with locomotives and coaches.
