Vyšehrad Chapter

50.06437114.417989Koordinaten: 50 ° 3 ' 52 " N, 14 ° 25' 5 " W The Royal Collegiate of St. Peter and Paul at Vyšehrad in Prague (Czech Republic ) was established by the Prince and King of Bohemia Vratislav II in the second half of 11th century according to the templates of the Church of Peter and Paul in Rome created. From the beginning until 1763 the chapter was not subject to the Bishop of Prague but the Pope in Rome. 1903, the last reconstruction was completed, which gave the chapter the current appearance.

It was built in the Romanesque style of a basilica. Under Charles IV, it was gothic appearance with three naves and side chapels. In the 1720s it was rebuilt in Baroque style after designs by Giovanni Santini and under the supervision of Franz Maximilian Kanka. 1885 Josef Mocker began with the transformation in the Gothic Revival style, and finally received it from 1902 to designs by Frantisek Mikes high pseudo-Gothic towers. The relief on the main portal of 1901 comes from Stepan Zálešák who used the last judgment as a motive.

The interior of the cathedral includes ornamental and figural wall painting by the painter František couple and Maria Urban from 1902. 1420 a painted view is located on the left wall at Vyšehrad. In the presbytery there are frescoes of the Viennese painter Karl Jobst, depicting the life of Peter and Paul. The window display designed by František Sequens. The main altar is a carving designed by Josef Mocker and 1884-1889 craftsmanship implemented by Josef Hrubeš. It represents the Dompatronen Peter and Paul and the St. Cyril and Methodius. Another altar Bohemian cartridges, this time on Jan Kastner from the beginning of the 20th century is located in the left chapel. In another altar of a chapel on the right is the most precious image of the Virgin Mary, a Gothic paintings from the collection of the Emperor Charles IV and Rudolf II is located in the first chapel on the right is a Romanesque coffin from the 12th century, probably a coffin a family member of Přemyslovci.

The original Romanesque crypt, built as a cemetery church, served as the burial place of the first Bohemian king and his descendants. It has not yet been found in the archaeological investigations.
