Waikato FC

Waikato Football Club is an indigenous to in Hamilton, New Zealand football club. The club was founded in 2004 and plays at the moment in the New Zealand Football Championship, the highest New Zealand league.

Most home games are at Waikato Stadium, Hamilton, discharged. With top games they avoid in the larger stadiums in Rotorua and Mount Maunganui.

The first season

Surprising top-three result

The first season after the foundation was a reasonably successful season. In the opening season in the New Zealand Football Championship, they reached after a weak start at the end of the season in third place.

The first competitive match of Waikato was abroad at Young Heart Manawatu, which they won 4-0, and thereby took over the championship lead. Unfortunately, they won the next nine games, only one, so they fell back into the table to seventh place. Then they won five matches in a row, one of them away to the championship favorites Auckland City. In the rest of the season, they lost only two games and won third place and thus earn a place in the "Elimination Final" of the playoffs against Waitakere United. Waikato lost this game in the Trusts Stadium, Auckland, 4-1. This defeat ended the hopes for the championship title.

Awards

Craig Flowerday was chosen by the players player of the year, goalkeeper Mark Fulcher of the fans. David Samson was Rookie of the Year. Forward Colin Gardyne won the trophy for the Goal of the Year by Sky Sports. He was also the top scorer of Waikato, along with Brett Derry.
