Waipaoa River

The Waipaoa River is a river in the region of Gisborne in the northeast of the North Island of New Zealand. It rises on the eastern side of the Raukumara Range, then flows 80 km to the south and flows south of Gisborne in the belonging to the Pacific Poverty Bay. The State Highway 2 follows the river on its lower half.

Important tributaries are Wharekopai, Waikohu, Mangatu, Waingaromia and Waihora River. On the river are the towns Whatatutu, Puha, Te Karaka, Kaitaratahi, Ormond and Patutahi.
