Waipukurau

Waipukurau is the largest city in the Central - Hawke's Bay district on the east coast of the North Island of New Zealand. It is located 50 km southwest of Hastings on the banks of Tukituki Rivers.

The city is located near a Māori Pa, from which it received its name. The Pa was situated on the main hill of the city, Pukekaihau. The city's name is " Pukerau - water " hot, which is a type of fungus pukerau. In the city's first church was built in 1847 in the inland Hawke 's Bay. Much of the city is derived from a model village which in 1867 by a local landowner named HR Russell was built.

At the 2006 census, the city had a population of 4,008 inhabitants, of which it has not changed compared to the 1996 census, with 4,002 inhabitants at that time.

Most jobs are seasonal and dependent on either of the meat-processing company Bernard Matthew's New Zealand Limited or the agriculture and horticulture of the environment.

The city is dominated by agriculture and mainly exported dairy products, fruits, vegetables and meat.
