Walking catfish

Clarias batrachus

The walking catfish ( Clarias batrachus ) from the order of catfish -like is native to Sri Lanka, East India, Malaysia to the Mekong Delta. He has since proliferated as neozoon also in some parts of Florida.

The English- speaking world, known as walking catfish fish has an additional respiratory organ in the form of a breathing bag, allowing it to accommodate additional surface air in oxygen-poor habitats. The fish can survive for a period of time out of the water.

The walking catfish can reach a size of up to 50 cm. Adult males can be distinguished from the females by their drawing of the dorsal fin with dots.
