Wall Ried (? French Esserts (Lac); Freiburg Patois Essechà / i ) is a municipality in the lake district (French: District du Lac ) of the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. Despite the predominantly French-speaking population of the municipality has officially a German name.

Geography

Wall Ried is located at 559 m above sea level. Level, 6 km south of the district town of Murten (air line). The village is located in a depression in the headwaters of the Ruisseau des Echelles (right side of the creek Chandon ), in the northern Molassehügelland Fribourg Mittelland.

The area of ​​3.9 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the over-molded by glacial Rhône glacier Molassehöhen between Lake Murten in the northwest and the Saanen valley in the east. The central part of the area occupied by the broad basin of the Ruisseau des Echelles. This is in the south of the hills Epenay ( 577 m above sea level. M. ) and Zudalla ( 610 m above sea level. Population

With 451 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Wall Ried is one of the small communities of the Canton of Fribourg. Of the 53.5 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking and 43.6 % 0.6 % speak Italian ( as of 2000). The population of Wallenried amounted in 1900 to 270 inhabitants. During the 20th century, the population fluctuated in the range of 240-300 inhabitants. Only since 1980 (244 inhabitants) a significant population growth was recorded.

Economy

Wall Ried was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding have an important place in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available. Wall Ried is the site of a golf course. In recent decades, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the regions of Fribourg and Murten.

Traffic

The community is located off the major thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from Courtepin. Wall Ried has no connection to the public transport network. The Courtepin station on the railway line Fribourg Murten is situated approximately 1 km from the town center.

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1337 under the name Essert. From 1498, the German version Ried is preserved. Since the 17th century the village was called Wall Ried. Since the Middle Ages Wallenried formed a small rule, which has undergone numerous changes of ownership over the years and in 1729 came to the Castella family.

1442 the village came by purchase under the rule of Freiburg and then became part of the Old Landscape ( Spitalpanner ). After the collapse of the ancien régime (1798 ) was one of Wall Ried during the Helvetic Republic and the subsequent time to the district of Freiburg and from 1831 to the German district of Freiburg, before it was incorporated in 1848 with the new cantonal constitution in the lake district.

Attractions

The village and castle chapel was donated in 1760 to his victory in Wesel by Rodolphe de Castella thanks. The Wall Ried castle was build in the 18th century rectangular mansion, which was rebuilt and enlarged in 1824 yet.
