Walter Brueggemann

Walter Brueggemann ( born 1933 in Tilden (Nebraska ) ) is an American theologian whose scientific and journalistic focus on the Old Testament.

Life

Brueggemann reached in 1955 at Elmhurst College Baccalaureus Artium a major in sociology and a Bachelor of Divinity in 1958 at Eden Theological Seminary; he received his doctorate in 1961 in Old Testament theology at Union Theological Seminary in the City of New York and 1974 in Education at Saint Louis University. He was from 1961 to 1986 professor of Old Testament at Eden Theological Seminary and then became a professor of Old Testament at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia, where he became Professor Emeritus in 2003.

Brueggemann is an advocate and representative of the rhetorical exegesis ( rhetorical criticism ) in the interpretation of the Bible. He has written numerous books and hundreds of journal articles written and edited several comments on books of the Bible. In the 1990s, Brueggemann participated in Bill Moyers television series on the Book of Genesis of the television station PBS.
