Wang Yong (politician)

Wáng Yǒng (Chinese王勇) (* December 1955 in Gaizhou, Liaoning Province) is a Chinese politician and the current Chairman of the Commission of the State Council for the control and management of state assets ( SASAC ). The SASAC manages the state property of the People's Republic of China, especially the state-owned enterprises.

Earlier career

Wang Yong belongs to the population of the Han Chinese. He joined the Communist Party of China ( CPC ) in August 1974. He received his master's degree from Harbin Institute of Technology majoring in industrial engineering. During the Cultural Revolution he served in 1969 in a construction crew in Heilongjiang Province.

Prior to his role as chairman of the SASAC Wang held various positions in business, especially in state-owned enterprises. These include, in the years 1999 and 2000, the positions as director and deputy party secretary of a factory of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, which equips the Chinese space program and developed guided missile, and the position as Deputy Managing Director and member of the Party Committee of China Aerospace Machinery and Electronics Corporation, which developed weapons systems.

Public offices

Later, Wang took over positions in the Chinese government and the CCP. He began in 2000 as Director General of the Economic Executive Office of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee. In May 2003 he became deputy director and member of the Party Committee of SASAC. In March 2005, then deputy party secretary of this committee. Wang was Deputy Secretary-General of the Office of China's State Council from March to September 2008.

From September 2008 to August 2010, he assumed the post of Director General of the Central State Office for quality control and quarantine. He was also secretary of the related party committee. Wang took office as chairman of the SASAC in August 2010. As with his previous position, he served as party secretary of the connected Committee of the CCP. In addition, Wang Yong is a member of the Central Disciplinary Committee of the CCP.

In 2010, Wang reached # 62 on the list of the most powerful people in the world by Forbes Magazine.
