End of the 70 Hussey moved to Liverpool and first played guitar in some local unknown bands before he committed in 1980 by Pauline Murray as a live guitarist of her band The Invesible Girls, but which he left after a few months.

Shortly before the year 1981, he was contacted by Pete Burns, who wanted to hire him as a guitarist in his band Dead Or Alive. Hussey accepted and then moved to London. First gigs took place in berühmeten Batcave. Following the publication of EP From Nowhere to Nowhere Hussey began to compose the songs, he wrote the single Misty Circles completely alone. After the chart success, tensions rose between Hussey and Burns, in which direction the band's music should go. Hussey was to make poplastiger the music with the plans do not agree, and so Hussey left the band in early 1984.

A short time later, he joined The Sisters of Mercy. Again, he played not only guitar, but also acted as a songwriter. Hussey shaped the music of the band and wrote considerably more than half the songs on the debut album First and Last and Always. Even during the tour of North America, there was a dispute between the members of the band and frontman Andrew Eldritch, whereupon he dissolved the band in November 1985.

A few months later Hussey Craig Adams co-founded the band The Mission, which persists to this day. His first solo album Bare appeared in 2009.
