Wellsford

Wellsford is a town in the north of the North Island of New Zealand. It is the northernmost major settlement in the Auckland region, and is located 114 km north west of Auckland City.

Wellsford is located on an isthmus of the North Auckland Peninsula caused by an arm of the Kaipara Harbour on the west coast, 20 km draws from the main area of the port in the country and thus up to 15 km from the east coast of the North Island.

Although the site at the census of 2006, only 1,671 inhabitants, he is an important regional center with its location at the junction of State Highway 1 and SH 16. Wells Fort is located halfway between Auckland and the northerly city of Whangarei.

Etymology

According to local tradition, the name is an acronym from the name of the first settler families in the region: Watson, Edger, Lester, Levet, Simpson, Foster, Oldfield, Ramsbottom and Dibble.

Another explanation is that the name of the original location of the place comes at a ford on the Tidal Creek, before the place on the Gum Ridge moved after the railroad had reached the main road north.

History

In the early 1960s, settlers from England arrived, who settled in Port Albert on the Kaipara Coast, approximately 10 kilometers west of Wellsford. These settlers were called by Albert of Saxe- Coburg and Gotha, the husband of Queen Victoria " Albert Landers ". These were an offshoot of the Anglican Church, which was looking for a new place to settle " However, not many of the settlers in Port Albert arrived and they found it hard to make a living here. The majority of Albert Lander therefore moved on to more fertile areas in the domestic and founded Wellsford.

The Wellsford School is a primary school for the 1st to 8th grade. She had 2011 308 students in January.

The Tapora School west of Wellsford, is also a primary school, she had 31 students in January 2011. This school has three classrooms, each containing 2-3 grade levels are taught by a teacher.

The Rodney College is an institution of higher education for the 9th to 13th grade with 308 students in 2011.

The private Christian Living Way Learning Centre is a composite school for 1st to 13th class that had 36 students in 2011.
