Werner Otto (cyclist)

Werner Otto ( born April 15, 1948 in Dresden ) is a retired German racing driver, two times world champion and cycling coach.

Werner Otto was 1962-1974 as a racing driver specialized in sprint and tandem race. 1969 and 1971 he was World Champion on the tandem together with Hans -Jürgen Geschke. Four times the two drivers were also GDR champion in this discipline.

At the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972 Otto and Geschke won the silver medal in the tandem race. 1974 Otto stepped back from power cycling, but won in the 2000s still podiums at Senior Championships.

From 1974 to 1991, Werner Otto was successful as a coach, including at SC Dynamo Berlin. Then he opened a bike shop in Berlin. He is also the initiator, namesake and chairman of the Association RSV Werner Otto; start or started for the driver as Karl Christian king, Dana Glöß, Robert Bartko, Guido Fulst and Sören Lausberg. Coach of the club is Emanuel Raasch.
