Węsiory

Węsiory ( Kashubian Wãsórë, German Wensiorry, 1942-45 Wensem ) is a village in the rural commune ( gmina wiejska ) Sulęczyno ( Sullenschin ) in the Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland ( Polska). Importance acquired the site by the prehistoric stone circles situated in the immediate vicinity.

Geographical Location

The village lies in the Kashubian region on the province road 228 approximately in the middle between Kartuzy ( Karthaus ) and Bytów ( Buetow ), south of Lębork ( Lauenburg i Pom. ) And west of Danzig ( Gdańsk).

Stone circles and burial mounds

Description

Just south of the village in a forest, there are several stone circles, some with one to three central stones, as well as artificial hills, some of them with a small upright megaliths at the summit. The stones used head - up. Toddler size, the system is thus not nearly as impressive as the large Megalithkreise in the UK or France. The circles and hill overlap partially and extend more than a few hundred meters.

The stone circles have diameter between 5 and 10 meters, they are partially incomplete. The hill diameter of about 3 m and a height of about 1 m, some are surrounded by a circle of head-sized stones, one is completely covered with stones. Striking is a fully lined with stones circle which is composed give the impression of two concentric circles.

Similar stone circles and hill are also found in other parts of Pomerania and Pomerania, the most famous in Odry ( Odri ), more in Leśno, Łupawa and Siemirowic.

Dating and mapping

The stone circles and hill be mostly attributed to the Goths who settled in the area from 1 AD to the 3rd century BC. However, there are sources that want to know the circuits and hill earlier, dated to the period 4000-1800 BC. The hills were identified as graves; the stone circles were possibly for meetings or rituals. Some sources, including the information sheets available on site, write the location of particular energies and report of nocturnal light phenomena.
