Westendstraße (Munich U-Bahn)

The underground station Westend Strasse is located in the west of Munich on the main line 3 of the Munich U -Bahn lines U4 and U5.

History

Underground Station West Road was opened on 10 March 1984. Until the opening of the subway station Disclaimer space and the associated extension of the so-called main line 3 in the west in 1988, he was also the start and end station for the U5. Since 1999 he has been for the U4 back end and start station.

Underground Station West Street was named after the road that led earlier to the western city limits of Munich. Today it is the boundary of the Munich neighborhoods Sendling -Westpark and Laim.

Location

Underground Station West Street is located in east-west direction beneath the Zschokkestraße. The west end of the platform has two outputs to the surface, open up both sides of the Zschokkestraße. The outputs at the east end of the platform lead to all four sides of the intersection Zschokkestraße / Westend road driving and hard stairs. There is also a distributor basement and an elevator to the surface as well as a connection to the tram line 18 to Gondrellplatz.

Until 1993 there was a tram depot at the Westend Road. Today, it is only a bus depot MVG ( Munich Transport Company ).

A centrally mounted row of pillars supporting the platform hall. The columns were covered with light blue tiles and decorated with rounded stainless steel edges.

The rear track walls were covered with oblong extending blue metal panels. The white slats on the ceiling of the station hall are transverse to the direction of travel to avoid glare from the two light bands.
