Westfälisches Landestheater

The Westphalian State Theatre was founded in 1933 in Paderborn. After closing on instructions during the Second World War it was constituted new 1946 in Castrop -Rauxel.

Was long thought of cinema as a performance venue. In the 1960s, the company moved to the "Old Fire Station " and the auditorium of the Adalbert-Stifter -Gymnasium was. In the following years, the WLT developed for " dedicated " people's theater in the area. A large part of this was the director Hans Dieter Schwarze (1968 - 1973).

During the directorship Hans Dieter Black by many theater, film and television were known artist at WLT. These included Angela Winkler, Ursula Herking, Barbara Klein and Hanns Ernst Jäger.

After construction of the new town center with town hall, hall and Stadthalle Europe, the company moved to its present location on the Europe Square. Currently, the WLT serves 430 subscribers, mostly originate from the district of Recklinghausen. Reach about 15 premieres at the show each year. At Europe Square, WLT has two venues: the city hall with 570 seats ( about 21 performances per year) and the WLT studio with 100 seats (about 51 performances per year). Furthermore, the WLT uses with its own mobile outdoor stage and bleachers for some years the market square in the old town Castroper for the open-air festival " stage out ...! " as an additional venue. An integral part of the WLT also include the children 's and youth theater, with offerings in theater education.

The performances of the Westphalian State Theatre in Castrop -Rauxel where the premieres take place are visited annually by more than 16,000 spectators. In addition, the WLT look at his performances in many venues across the country more than 70,000 spectators (as of season 2010 /11).
