Wetschaft

Wetlands to the biotope Wetschaft in composite system Upper Wetschafttal at Roda

The Wetschaft is a 29 km long, orographic left tributary of the Lahn in Hesse counties Waldeck-Frankenberg and Marburg -Biedenkopf ( Germany ).

Geography

The Wetschaft rises in the castle forest on the southeast flank of the mountain water, about 2 km south-east of Roda. Your source of Landgraf Born, located at an altitude of 360 m above sea level. NN. Flowing down from its source to the southeast applies the Wetschaft after a short run to the west and a few kilometers further north. After Roda flowed through, the river turns in a wide arc to the south.

From castle forest Ernsthausen south flowing river happened nor its western boundary, and Munchausen, Simtshausen and death camp.

After the inflow of by far the most water-rich tributary Treisbach from the right or west passes through the Wetschaft that has thus their amount of water more than doubled, still weather and low weather to the southeast of Lahn -Göttingen to 192 m above sea level. NN on the left side to open into the Lahn.

On its 29 km long road which Wetschaft overcomes a difference in altitude of 168 m, corresponding to an average bed slope of 5.8 ‰. They drained a 196.204 km ² large catchment area over the Lahn and the Rhine to the North Sea.

Tributaries

Subsequently, the inflows are enumerated in the Lahn from the headwaters to the mouth. There are in brackets the inflow side, the length of the water body, its catchment area and, if known, listed its average runoff.

  • Shaft Erbach (right, 2.6 km, 2.2 km ²)
  • Senkelbach (right, 5.5 km, 5.5 km ²) Langer Grund (right to Senkelbach, 1.6 km, 3.1 km ²)
  • Bach from Lichtersberg, (left to Wollmarshöhe; 3.4 km )
  • Langengrund (right to Wollmarshöhe; 2.1 km )
  • Bambach (from right to Treisbach; 4.6 km )
  • Asphe (from left to Treisbach, 10.5 km, 23.1 km ², 234 l / s)
  • Rosphequelle (right to Rosphe, 1.4 miles)
  • Bach from Bachtenberg (right to Rosphe; 3.9 km )

Main river

Although the Treisbach is at the confluence with the Wetschaft slightly shorter ( 17.2 km compared to 20 km) and has a slightly lower catchment ( 68.2 vs. 87.4 km ²), however, is his drain with 810 l / s higher than that of the Wetschaft (666 l / s) at that time. Therefore, the mouth can be viewed as an equal confluence of the two main arms, their catchment areas also natural environments differ significantly; the Wetschaft drained primarily to the West Hessian mountain country to compute the Castle Forest, the Treisbach to the Southshore Bergland attributed bagpipe along with Vorhöhen.

Although the two rivers Treisbach ( with Asphe ) and Wollmarshöhe occupy only 49% of the catchment area of the Wetschaft, but lead with a total of 1088 l / s 64 % of the total water. This is, inter alia, due to the fact that they (up to 674 m over 400 m) arise from a higher region.

Environment

The Wetschaft counts to the confluence of Treis Bach to the fine- material- rich, siliceous means mountain streams ( stream type 5.1), below it as a means of siliceous mountain river ( water type 9).

In the upper section between Rosenthal - Roda and Castle Forest Ernsthausen the biotope network system "Upper Wetschafttal " was established. Through extensive maintenance of wetlands and the creation of new habitats ( for example through the creation of new ponds by means of explosives or the restoration of peatlands ) in the past centuries repressed by agricultural use of site-specific flora and fauna to their ancestral habitat are returned.

Through their valley run the Castle Forest Railway Marburg -Frankenberg and the federal highway 252
