Wiederstedt is a district of the town Arnstein in the district of Mansfeld- South Harz in Saxony- Anhalt. Until the incorporation on September 1, 2010, the site was co-managed by Arnstein. Last mayor was Dieter Suess of the CDU.

Geography

Wiederstedt located on the eastern edge of the Harz, about 3 kilometers north-east of Hettstedt, at the mouth of Walbke in the Wipper.

History

  • 948 the church was first mentioned in a document of Otto I..
  • 1264 gave the gentlemen to Friedeburg the nunnery to Wiederstedt three hooves in Neustede ( deserted village of Nienstedt ).
  • 1296, the citizens of Nienstet fought violently with the monastery to Wiederstedt to tithing.

Monastery, office and village Wiederstedt were pledged on 13 April 1561 by the Counts of Mansfeld to Jacob of Blanckenburg for the sum of 14,000 gold coins. About his niece the estate came at the beginning of the 17th century to the family of Hardenberg.

In Wiederstedt the birthplace of Novalis and the Oberwiederstedt castle is a museum and research center. The Baptistry of St. Mary Novalis is Oberwiederstedt, with adjoining monastery ship of a former Dominican convent from the early 13th century.
