Wijeyananda Dahanayake

Vijayananda ( Wijeyananda ) Dahanayake (* October 22, 1902, † May 4, 1997 in the District of Galle, Southern Province ) was a Sri Lankan politician.

Biography

Dahanayake was first a member of the leftist Lanka Sama Samaja Party, before he became a member of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party ( SFLP ) of SWRD Bandaranaike. This appointed him as Minister of Education (Minister of Education) in the government.

After the assassination of Bandaranaike on September 26, 1959, he succeeded him as Prime Minister of Sri Lanka. This office he held until the next general election in March 1960. SFLP However, the subject of the United National Party, Dudley Shelton Senanayake so that the new prime minister was on 21 March 1960. Also Dahanayake himself lost in these elections from his position as a deputy in the Parliament.

On March 27, 1965 Dudley Senanayake appointed him Minister of the Interior (Minister of Home Affairs ) in an acting be until May 29, 1970 Cabinet.

Most recently he was during the tenure of Prime Minister Ranasinghe Premadasa between 1986 and 1988 Minister of Cooperatives (Minister of Cooperatives ).
