Wild Strawberries Movement

The Wild Strawberries student movement (Chinese野 草莓 运动/野 草莓 运动, Pinyin Ye cǎoméi yundong, English Wild Strawberry Student Movement, in short:野 草莓, also Action1106 ) is supported by student protest movement in the Republic of China on Taiwan. It is directed against the policy of rapprochement of the new President Ma Ying- jeou to the People's Republic of China and the crackdown by the police against demonstrators.

The protests began on 6 November 2008 during a visit by Chen Yunlin, chairman of the People's Republic of China settled " Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits " ( ARATS ), in Taipei. Chen met with President Ma to negotiate the expansion of marine, aviation and postal routes between the two countries.

After a fierce engagement of the Taipei police against a group of initially 400 students who formed a human chain in protest against the visit of Chen, a sit-in at the Executive Yuan began as a protest against the strict right of assembly, which does not allow demonstrations at government buildings. Demonstrations

Responses of the Government
