Wilfred Kibet Kigen

Wilfred Kibet Kigen ( born February 23, 1975) is a Kenyan marathon runner.

In 2003 he was fourth at the Route du Vin and second in Boulogne- Billancourt Half Marathon. In 2004 he finished the Hamburg Marathon the fifth and the Amsterdam Marathon in fourth place.

His breakthrough came the following year when he was at the Hamburg Marathon runners-up behind Julio Rey first and then the Frankfurt Marathon in a dramatic finale in which he his three compatriots Jason Mbote, his cousin Wilson Kipkemboi Kigen and Charles Kibiwott by a few seconds suggested a course record of 2:08:29 aufstellte. In 2006, he was fourth in Hamburg and repeated his victory in Frankfurt.

2007 he succeeded after a second place in Hamburg not only as the first runner of the hat-trick in the Frankfurt Marathon, he also improved his course record 2:07:58.

After each second place in the Hamburg Marathon 2008 and the Dusseldorf Marathon 2009 he succeeded in 2010 in Hamburg at the sixth attempt to win.

Wilfred Kibet Kigen comes from Eldoret and put in his childhood every day on the way to school 20 km on foot. His father was a farmer and died in 1995 in a car accident. Kigen lives with his family in Ngong. He is just like his mentor Wilson Boit Kipketer employed by the police.
