Wilhelm Graf von Hohenau

Count Wilhelm Albrecht Carl Otto Alexander Hohenau ( born November 27, 1884 in Berlin, † April 11, 1957 in Hamburg ) was a German competition riders.

Life

William, also known as Willi, was a son of Count Friedrich von Hohenau (1857-1914) from his marriage to Charlotte von der Decken ( 1863-1933 ). About his father he was a great-grandson of the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III. and Queen Luise and 2nd degree cousin of Kaiser Wilhelm II

As a Prussian officer, he served in Leibkürassierregiment # 1 in Wroclaw and finally at the Military Riding Institute in Hannover. In 1912 he was at the Olympic Games in Stockholm bronze medalist in the team show jumping, finishing in sixth place in the individual competition.

In the following decades Hohenau was considered the most successful German racing and competition rider who could win countless victories. Later he worked as a riding instructor in Flottbeker riding club in Hamburg.

From his first marriage with Countess Anna Henckel von Donnersmarck (1894-1946) he had two children. His second wife was since 1932 the committed rider Ellen ( " Ellenka " ) Retemeyer - Ketschendorf.
