Wilhelm Taubert

Karl Gottfried Wilhelm Taubert ( born March 23, 1811 in Berlin, † 7 January 1891 in Berlin) was a German pianist and composer.

Life

Taubert studied at the Friedrich- Wilhelms- University of his native town, among other things, Philosophy. Already during his studies he became a pupil of the composer Ludwig Berger and Bernhard Klein. After successful completion of his studies he worked until 1831 for the most part as a music teacher.

This year, he was appointed as conductor of the Berlin court concerts and ten years later became Taubert as music director of the royal. Opera. In this office he founded in winter 1842/43 the " symphony soirees ", who performed the court orchestra under his direction. From 1845 to the end of 1869 he had held the post; together in 1849 with Heinrich Dorn.

Despite his retirement in 1870 Taubert continued to work with the court musicians and in 1875 as Chairman of the musical section of the Academy of Arts; since 1834, he was there already a member.

Taubert composed operas and symphonies, cantatas and theater music, string quartets and piano trios, piano, violin and cello sonatas and more than 300 songs, including many children's songs, such as sleeping in full tranquility. Because of his contributions to the music him the honorary membership of the Sing-Akademie zu Berlin was awarded. Late 1889 Taubert replied all his offices and retired into private life. Shortly before his 80th birthday died Wilhelm Taubert on January 7, 1891 in Berlin. His final resting place is located in the cemetery I of the community in Jerusalem and New Church at the Zossener in Berlin- Kreuzberg (Dept. 3/1).

Family

Wilhelm Taubert married on November 30, 1834 Wilhelmine Schechner, a sister of singer Nanette Schechner scales ( 1804-1860 ). A son of this marriage was the writer Emil Taubert ( 1844-1895 ).
