Willi Braun

Wilhelm " Willi" Braun ( born August 2, 1944) is a former German badminton player. He began his career with TSV Ehmen. For this club, he won two silver medals in 1961 at the German Junior Championships, a year later, his first national junior title. In 1964 he became Lower Saxony champion men's doubles, men's singles in 1965. 14 Lower Saxony title he won in total. 1966 and 1967 he won four high school championship, now already starting for VfL Wolfsburg. A year later he won his first league titles in doubles with Franz Beinvogl from Munich. However, his greatest successes came with his next doubles partner Roland Maywald. Together they won in 1972 and 1974 European Championships gold in men's doubles in 1976, it was enough for both again to bronze at the European Championships. From 1974 to 1977 both were unbeatable at German Championships in doubles: They won in this period four titles in a row. With the last league title in 1977 Willi Braun ended his competitive sports career.
