William Babcock (politician)

William Babcock (* 1785 in Hinsdale, New Hampshire, † October 20, 1838 in Penn Yan, New York ) was an American politician. Between 1831 and 1833 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

William Babcock was born about two years after the end of the Revolutionary War in Cheshire County. In 1813 he moved to Penn Yan, where he pursued commercial transactions. After the formation of the Yates County, he was appointed by the Governor for the first County Treasurer. Politically he belonged to the Anti- Masonic Party on. In the congressional elections of 1830 for the 22nd Congress Babcock was in the 26th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeds Jehiel H. Halsey and Robert S. Rose took on March 4, 1831 which previously represented the 26th district together from New York in the U.S. House of Representatives. He retired after the March 3, 1833 out of the Congress.

After his conference time he returned to commercial transactions, but also worked as a hotel owner. He died on October 20, 1838 in Penn Yan. His body was interred in the City Cemetery Hill in Torrey Township at Penn Yan.
