William Brett, Baron Brett

William Henry Brett, Baron Brett ( born March 6, 1942 in Manchester, † 29 March 2012) was a British politician ( Labour Party ) and business manager.

Life and career

William Henry Brett, son of William and Mary Board, visited the Radcliffe Technical College at the University of Manchester. From 1958 to 1964 he worked as a teller ( Booking Clerk ) for British Rail, 1965-1967, he was an administrative assistant for the Transport Salaried Staffs ' Association and 1966-1968 negotiator for the District of West of the National Union of Bank Employees. From 1968 to 1974, board area administrative officer ( Divisional Officer ) for the Association of Scientific, Technical and Managerial Staffs.

He was a presenter on BBC Radio Nottingham. At the Institution of Professionals, Managers and Specialists ( IPMS), today PROSPECT, he was from 1974 to 1980, first as Secretary ( Assistant Secretary ) ( jurisdiction over members from the fields of environment and agriculture), from 1980 to 1989 as Deputy General Secretary ( Assistant General Secretary ) ( jurisdiction over the public and private sectors ), and finally worked from 1989 to 1999 as Secretary-General ( Secretary -General ).

Also from 1989 to 1999 he was a member of the Executive Committee of Public Services International (PSI) and the Supervisory Board (General Council) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC ). From 1992 to 2003, Board Member, Vice President and Chairman of the Workers' Group of the International Labour Organisation ( ILO) in Geneva, from 2002 to 2003, he was there Chairman of the decision-making body ( governing body ). Since 2004 he has been Director of the ILO UK and Republic of Ireland; However, the ILO Office in London has now been closed. He continued from 1960 to 1999 a member of the Association of Professional, Executive, Clerical and Computer Staff (APEX). From 1998 to 2000 he was a Non-Executive Director of Docklands Light Railway.

Membership in the House of Lords

From 2008 to 2010 he was the Government Whip and 2009-2010 Government Spokesman for International Development Assistance (Government Spokesperson for International Development ). Family

Brett married in 1961 Jean Valerie Cooper. They divorced in 1986. In his second marriage he was married from 1994 with Janet Winters. The divorce took place in 2006. He had a son and a daughter with his first wife and two daughters with his second wife. Recently he lived and worked in London.

Other offices and honors

From 1964 to 1968 he was a member ( Councillor ) of the City Council of the London Borough of Lewisham. Board in 1994 Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA ). In 2004 he received an honorary doctorate from the Sullivan University in Louisville, where he was Honorary Senior Fellow.
