William Corbett (politician)

William T. Corbett ( born March 23, 1902 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, † April 17, 1971 in Arlington, Virginia ) was an American politician. In 1956 he was appointed acting Governor of Guam.

Career

William Corbett was the older brother of Congressman Robert J. Corbett (1905-1971) from Pennsylvania. After his college days, during which he came into existence as an athlete, he studied at the University of Pittsburgh. After studying law at the same university, and his admission as an attorney, he began to work in this profession. He specialized in cases related to accident insurance. He was also a deputy district attorney and district judge in Greater Pittsburgh.

In 1956, Corbett was appointed by the Republican government under President Dwight D. Eisenhower for the Secretary of State of Guam. In this office he was also representative of Governor Ford Quint Elvidge. After his resignation, he had this function provisionally assume and exercise from May 19 to October 2, 1956.

After the end of his time as governor William Corbett returned to the American mainland, where he ( Solicitor for Contract Appeals ) worked for the U.S. Department of Interior 1957-1970 for 13 years as a lawyer. He died on 17 April 1971 at Northern Virginia Doctors Hospital in Arlington.
