William Crooke

William Crooke ( born August 6 1848October 25, 1923 ) was a British anthropologist, historian, folklorist, Indologist and colonial administrator in India.

He was in India predominantly in the northern provinces, the north-western provinces and Oudh worked and wrote works on the tribes and castes, folk religion and folklore, and the caste system of regions, which are among the classics of Indology and to this day constantly hangs up new.

He also wrote numerous articles for the Encyclopaedia of Religion and Ethics (1908-1921) by Rev. James Hastings.

He is also the publisher of travel works (Jean -Baptiste Tavernier, John Fryer, Sea Hasan Ali, Shurreef Jaffur ) and reference ( Hobson - Jobson, 2nd ed and Things Indian) emerged.
