William Edward McManus

William Edward McManus ( born January 27, 1914 in Chicago; † 3 March 1997) was Roman Catholic bishop of Fort Wayne - South Bend.

Life

William Edward McManus received on April 15, 1939 by the Archbishop of Chicago, George William Cardinal Mundelein, the sacrament of Holy Orders.

Pope Paul VI. appointed him on 11 June 1967 Titular Bishop of Mesarfelta and Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago. He received his episcopal consecration of the Archbishop of Chicago, Cardinal John Patrick Cody on 24 August of the same year; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Madison, Cletus Francis O'Donnell, and Auxiliary Bishop John Aloysius Wycislo from Chicago.

On August 24, 1976 Pope Paul VI appointed him. Bishop of Fort Wayne - South Bend. The solemn inauguration ( enthronement ) took place on 19 October of the same year. Pope John Paul II participated in the February 18, 1985 be on the grounds of age pre- mounted resignation.
