William Goldman

William Goldman ( born August 12, 1931 in Highland Park / Illinois) is an American screenwriter and writer.

Life

Goldman grew up in a Jewish family in the outskirts of Chicago. He, in 1952, a bachelor's degree (BA ) from Oberlin College and received the degree of Master of Arts ( MA) in 1956 at Columbia University in New York City.

Although Goldman also wrote novels and plays, his reputation primarily on the work for film and television productions is well founded. For his screenplays for two bandits and The Untouchables Goldman won an Oscar each.

He also wrote a number of books about his experiences in the U.S. film industry. It is often used as a script doctor to revise immature screenplays. Among other things, he revised John Cleese ' screenplay for Fierce Creatures (1997). For his novel The Princess Bride, which was filmed in 1987 by Rob Reiner (English release title: The Princess Bride ), he invented the writer S. Morgenstern, whose novel he allegedly edited and shortened to the " exciting " button.
