William M. Fraser III

William M. Fraser III. ( Born August 17, 1952 in Lakeland, Florida) is a general of the United States Air Force ( USAF) and since October 14, 2011 Commander of U.S. Transportation Command ( USTRANSCOM ), a teilstreiktraftübergreifenden functional command of the armed forces of the United States with headquarters at the Scott Air Force Base, Illinois.

Previously, he served from September 2009 to September 2011 as commander of the Air Combat Command (ACC ), a major command of the USAF, and from October 2008 to August 2009 as Deputy Chairman of the General Staff of the USAF.

Education and Career

Fraser graduated from Texas A & M University, during which he participated in a training program of the Reserve Officer Training Corps in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology from and even joined in the same year the U.S. Air Force, where he completed a two-year pilot training and subsequently worked as an instructor in different usages.

As an officer, Fraser served from June 1985 to March 1986 with the rank of Major as Chief, European Single Integrated Operational plan Tactics, Joint Strategic Target Planning at the Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska, October 1987 to July 1990 with the rank of lieutenant colonel as chief, Nuclear Requirements Cell at Headquarters of the Allied Forces in Europe in Mons, Belgium, and from May 1998 to May 1999 with the rank of colonel as chief of staff of the U.S. Strategic Commands.

Fraser further training includes, but a Master of Science in Management Information Systems from the University of Northern Colorado ( 1980), a visit to the Marine Corps Command and Staff College ( 1983), the Armed Forces Staff College (1985) and the Air War College (1991). During his career, Fraser came to around 4,300 flight hours, as well as other patterns on the T -37, C -21, KC- 135R, B -52 and B-2.

During several missions abroad Fraser participated among others in Operation Southern Watch and Operation Enduring Freedom in Iraq.

Service in the rank of general

To Brigadier General transported served Fraser from December 2000 to December 2002 as Deputy Director for National Systems Operations, Director Defense Space Reconnaissance Program and Deputy Director for Military Support at the National Reconnaissance Office in the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Washington, DC, then from January 2003 to October 2004 as Director of Operations at the Air Education and training Command ( AETC ) at Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, from October 2003 with the rank of major general.

In November 2004, Fraser's transfer to the Langley Air Force Base, Virginia, where he served under promotion to lieutenant general in February 2005, just over 15 months as the deputy commander of the ACC; between May 2006 and October 2008 was followed by a use as Adjutant General of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, again in Washington, DC

On 18 April 2008, U.S. President George W. Bush nominated Fraser for the succession of Duncan J. McNabb as Deputy Chairman of the General Staff of the Air Force; Fraser joined this post on 8 October of the same year, coupled with the promotion to General.

In September 2009, Fraser moved as the successor of John DW Corley as commander of the ACC back to Langley Air Force Base, before he finally took over in October 2011, the command of the USTRANSCOM, where he and three years prior Duncan McNabb replaced.
