William Marion Jardine

William Marion Jardine (born 16 January 1879 in Oneida County, Idaho; † January 17, 1955 in San Antonio, Texas) was an American agronomist, university rector, Minister of Agriculture of the United States and Ambassador.

Biography

After school he studied agricultural science at the Agricultural College of Utah and acquired there in 1904 a Bachelor of Science ( BS). After that, he was from 1905 to 1906 worked as a professor at the Graduate School of Utah. In 1910 he was an agricultural scientist at the research station of the Kansas State Agricultural College and was nigh 1916-1917 president of the American Society of Agronomy. In 1918 he became president of the Kansas State Agricultural College and held that office until 1925.

On March 5, 1925, appointed to the Cabinet of William Marion Jardine by U.S. President Calvin Coolidge to the Minister of Agriculture (U.S. Secretary of Agriculture ). This cabinet post he held until the end of Coolidge's presidency on March 4, 1929.

After working as an ambassador to Egypt from 1930 to 1933 he spent a year as Minister of Finance ( State Treasurer ) of the State Government of Kansas during the tenure of Governor Alf Landon.

Most recently, he was from 1934 to 1939 president of the Municipal University of Wichita.

He was also involved in many other organizations and institutions and among other temporary member of the Agriculture Committee of the Advisory Board of the American Bankers Association, a member of the American Forestry Association, Director of Public interests of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka, a member of the Advisory Board of the Federal Savings and Loan, Chairman of the investment Corporation of America, a member of the Board of the National Research Council ( National Research Council ), Board Member of the National Safety Council and Vice President of the National Academy of Sciences. In addition, the Freemasons was also active in Rotary International.
