William Richard Scott

William Richard ( "Dick" ) Scott ( born December 13, 1932) is an American sociologist. He is professor emeritus at Stanford University and mainly dealt with the sociology of organizations. He is considered a pioneer of the sociological neo- institutionalism.

Life

Scott graduated from the University of Kansas, where he received his MA obtained. His doctoral thesis presented at the University of Chicago.

Scott was of his scientific career, worked until his retirement, at the Department of Sociology at Stanford University. In addition to this, he also taught at the Graduate School of Business, the School of Education and the School of Medicine at Stanford University. Scott led the Institute in 1972 until 1989. He was co-founder of the Stanford Center for Organizations Research, which he headed from its founding in 1988 until 1996. Scott's scientific oeuvre includes a dozen monographs, as many books he published as co -author. In addition, Scott wrote more than 100 articles in professional journals, periodicals and anthologies. Scott gave out numerous journals, including the Annual Review of Sociology from 1986 to 1991.

Scott worked, inter alia, John W. Meyer and Peter M. Blau together. He also participated in various committees as a political consultant.

In March 2000, his honorary doctorate from the Copenhagen Business School, an honorary doctorate from the Swedish School of Economics was awarded in 2001.

Works in German language

Empirically, Scott was mainly involved with organizations in the field of education and health. Theoretically, he dealt mainly with institutions. Scott's works are considered classics, but are, not translated into German, with one exception.
