William Wright Smith

Sir William Wright Smith ( born February 2, 1875 in Parkend near Lochmaben, Dumfriesshire, † December 15, 1956 in Edinburgh) was a Scottish botanist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " WWSm. ".

He was the son of James T. Smith. From 1922 to 1956 he was director of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. Extensive collection trips have taken him to the Himalayas. He was a specialist in the genus Primula and Rhododendron. Smith published together with George Forrest and Harold Roy Fletcher "The genus Primula " ( 1929-1950 ). In 1932 he was elected as a member ( "Fellow" ) to the Royal Society.
