Dumfriesshire

Dumfriesshire is one of the traditional counties of Scotland, located in the south of Scotland, on the border with England. Administrative headquarters and the eponymous town was the town of Dumfries. The county historically consisted of the three landscapes Annandale, Eskdale and Nithsdale.

As the administrative county of Dumfriesshire was 1890-1975 and then went on in the region of Dumfries and Galloway. The Dumfries and Galloway region was transformed into a unitary authority in 1996. Dumfriesshire is still one of the Lieutenancy Areas of Scotland.
