Willy Tröger

Willy Tröger ( born October 2, 1928 in Zwickau, † 30 March 2004 in Pirna ) was a German football player. He graduated 1954-1959 15 games in the GDR selection.

The center forward who, in the meantime renamed for the BSG bismuth Aue in SC bismuth Karl- Marx-Stadt in the GDR Oberliga 105 goals in 224 games ( still record in Aue ) shot and in the season 1954/1955 top scorer (22 goals) was, in the 1950s was one of the most popular East German football player.

Tröger, who began his career as a goalkeeper, had to after the Second World War, its position in the goal clear, because the then 16 -year-old had his right hand torn off at the front a grenade. Will died on 30 March 2004 in Pirna, Saxony - Copitz at the age of 75 years. He had been suffering from stomach cancer and operated on twice. The Erzgebirge folk-rock singer and songwriter Stefan Gerlach put the Idol with the song " Tröger - Will" a musical monument. In honor of Willy Trögers the stadium of VfL Pirna- Copitz was in " Willy Tröger Stadium " renamed (formerly Saxony Stadium ).
