Wilmington Hammerheads FC

Wilmington Hammerheads is an American football team from Wilmington, North Carolina. Hammer Heads were founded in 1996 and have been playing the 2011 season in the USL Professional Division, the third- highest division of the U.S..

After the hammer had suspended the 2010 season, they returned in 2011 back again.

History

2003 the team was able to win his first title. They won the final of the play-offs of the USL Pro Select League 2-1 against the Westchester Flames. The year before, the Hammers were also represented in the final, but lost it against the Long Iceland Roughriders.

Great success could reach the team in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup when they defeated Dallas Burn 4-1 in 2003 and in the subsequent quarter-finals narrowly against DC United failed. 2009 was again a team from Major League Soccer, Chicago Fire SC, to be defeated in the Cup. This game in the third round won the Hammers 1-0.

The 2009 season, the last date of the Wilmington Hammerheads, was one of the most successful in its history. Stadium

The Wilmington Hammerheads play their home games at Legion Stadium. The stadium is part of the Legion Sports Complex, which has next to the venue still places for the youth teams playing in the Super Y -League, the franchise. Overall, the stadium can accommodate 6,000 spectators.
