Wiman of Gojoseon

Wei Man, Korean and Wiman, was a Chinese general who BC king of the Korean kingdom Go- Joseon was in the 2nd century. Contemporary Chinese sources call him Man, the name Wei was added later.

History

Wei Man was a general of Yan - State, (卢 绾) was ruled at the time by the Prince Lu Wan. Lu Wan had to flee 195 BC, as the Han Emperor Gao accused him of rebellion and pursued. Wei Man crossed then together with 1,000 followers river Pae (浿 水) after Go- Joseon. He succeeded his followers to Chinese refugees from Yan (燕) and Qi (齐) as well as locals from Jinbeon and Joseon (朝鲜) to increase, with whom he eventually King June fell from the throne. He moved the capital to Wanggeom ( near the present-day Pyongyang located ). 108 BC Go- Joseon was defeated under the reign of his grandson Youqu of Emperor Wu. The period 194-108 BC is called in Korean historiography Wiman Joseon.
