The Windhoek Station (English Windhoek Station) is the station of the Namibian capital Windhoek.

Infrastructure and architecture

The rail network in the passenger station Windhoek includes three tracks, two of which are platform tracks. In addition, five sidings and four sidings. The extended freight yard north of the main building has a track ladder of 23 tracks plus additional equipment. The current station building was inaugurated in 1912. It was built in Wilhelmine style with Art Nouveau elements of the German colonial power in German South-West Africa. The narrow gauge locomotive Old Joe in front of the building also dates from this period.

On the first floor of the reception building is the Trans Namib Museum.

Routes and schedules

The first railway line in Namibia was taken in 1902 from Windhoek to Swakopmund. 1912 was marked by the opening of the railway station and the commissioning of the connection to Keetmanshoop. These routes are also still one of the most important compounds from Windhoek.

Regular combined freight and passenger connections are there to Swakopmund and on to Walvis Bay, Gobabis, Keetmanshoop and Otjiwarongo, Tsumeb and on to Oshikango. Pure freight routes are available from Windhoek to to Aus and in the future on the southern runway again until after Lüderitz. Luxurious connections there with the Desert Express regularly to Swakopmund.
