The wind farm Holtriem is a wind farm in the East Frisian Samtgemeinde Holtriem and is located on the territory of the member communities Westerholt, Schweindorf and nominal village. Opened in 1998, the wind farm was the largest wind park in Europe when it opened. It is operated by the wind farm Norderland GmbH & Co. Holtriemer Hamm Rich I.

Characteristics

The wind farm has 40 wind turbines of the type Enercon E- 66th In mid-2005, the wind farm to four Enercon E -70 and three Enercon E -48 has been extended. In 2009, eight Enercon E -82 were built. The installed electrical infeed of the wind farm is 52.5 MW.

Wind turbine with observation deck

A special feature of one of the E-66 systems is designed as a wind turbine with observation deck and open to the public. A spiral staircase with 297 steps, the visitor arrives to the glazed viewing platform at 65 meters height.
