Term

The term comes from the Latin vinitor wineries ( wine / grape pickers ) or vinum ( wine). For the professional, other names are in the German language in use, as tenants or vintners in Württemberg, Weinzierl on Bavarian, vintners in Austria or vine in Tyrol. In Franconia the term " hackers " is widespread. As a professional term outdated and known only as surnames are Rebmann or Weinmann ( Weimann, Weihmann ).

Training

Winegrower

In Germany, Switzerland and Austria winery is an agricultural training professional with three years of professional training. In Austria, training in special schools for wine-growing and skilled workers. Patronage

Patron saints of the winery are the holy Cyriak, one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers, as counsel to frost and storm, and St. Urban of Langres, which is often confused with the saints and Pope Urban I., as a helper for healthy vine growth. Both patron saints are often depicted with a bunch of grapes or a vine in hand.
