Wisen is a municipality in the district of Gösgen the canton of Solothurn in Switzerland.

Geography

Wisen located at 682 m above sea level. Level, 5 km north of the town of Olten (air line). The scattered village extends in the Jura Mountains at the southern foot of the Wisenbergs, on a saddle and in the east which are situated further Talung of Wisenbachs, near the pass crossing of the Lower Hauenstein. Wisen is next Kienberg the only north of the main ridge of the Jura village located in the district Gösgen.

The area of ​​4.8 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the eastern Jura Mountains. The larger eastern part of the municipality is located in the catchment area of ​​the Wisenbachs, a source of Bach's northward flowing to Ergolz Eibach. The northern boundary is formed by the broad ridge of Wisenbergs, on 990 m above sea level. M. the highest point of Wisen is achieved. East of the village stands the striking rock formation of Wisner rock face that belongs to the Flueberg ( 935 m above sea level. M. ). In the east and south, the municipal boundary runs along the main ridge of the Jura, the watershed between the Aare River in the south and in the north Ergolz. It ranges from Burgflue (up to 930 m above sea level. M. ) and the saddle of Birmatt in the east of the amount at Froburg (866 m above sea level. M. ) to the slope Matt (804 m above sea level. M. ) in the south. To the west of the municipality floor extends over the Wisner saddle in the catchment area of ​​the stream Homburger ( left tributary of the Ergolz ). From the municipality surface 1997 6 % came from settlements, 40 % of forest and woody plants and 54% to agriculture.

To Wisen include various individual farms. Neighboring communities of Wisen are Lostorf, Trimbach and Hauenstein Ifenthal in the canton of Solothurn and Läufelfingen, Häfelfingen and Zeglingen in the canton of Basel-Landschaft.

Population

With 419 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Wisen is one of the small communities of the Canton of Solothurn. Of the residents 97.9 % are German, 0.7 % speak Romansh and 0.7 % Dutch ( as of 2000). The population of Wisen amounted in 1850 to 530 inhabitants, in 1900 only 346 inhabitants. During the 20th century, the population further increased to 1970 from 285 people. Since then, a significant population growth was recorded again.

Economy

Wisen was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, animal husbandry and dairying, agriculture and the growing of fruit ( especially cherry trees ) have an important place in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available, including a carpenter and in photographic studios. Hupp, a residential group of social enterprise WG meeting from Trimbach is located at a scenic location on the southwestern slope of the Wisenbergs. In recent decades, the village has developed into a residential community. Thanks to its relatively high elevation north of the Jura main ridge has Wisen much less foggy days than the neighboring Aare valley. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the region Olten, partially also in the larger towns of the Ergolztal.

Traffic

The community is located off the major thoroughfares on a link road from the Lower Hauenstein Gelterkinden. By bus the BOGG (bus Olten Gösgen Gaeu ), which serves the route from Olten to Wisen, the village is connected to the public transport network.

History

The territory of Wisen was already inhabited during the Bronze Age and the Roman period. The first documentary mention of the place was already in 1226 under the present name in a document of the monastery Schoental. Later, the names Wison ( 1325 ), Knowledge ( 1459 ) and Wysen ( 1526) appeared. The name is now attributed to the Old High German personal name WiSo, the derivation from the Old High German word wisa ( meadow) is rejected by the modern name of research.

Since the Middle Ages Wisen was under the rule of the Counts of Frohnburg. In 1367, the village came to the Counts of for IC- 1375 as Habsburg fief to Thiersteiner and 1418 at the Falkensteiner which owned the dominion Gösgen. By buying Wisen came in 1458 to the town of Solothurn and was now the bailiwick Gösgen. In the following years there were until 1839 always disputes between Solothurn and Basel on the membership of the village; only since Wisen is legally definitively allocated to the canton of Solothurn. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798 ) belonged Wisen during the Helvetic Republic to the administrative district of Solothurn and from 1803 to the District Gösgen.

Attractions

Since 1535 there was a chapel in Wisen, but collapsed in 1763 and two years afterwards rebuilt. Since a renewed collapse of the chapel could not be excluded, the church was in 1837 replaced by the present Church of Saint Joseph, a simple hall building with a semicircular choir. She was raised in 1866 to the parish church (previously were the villagers after Ifenthal pfarrgenössig ). As 1925, the steeple was again threatened with collapse, a new tower was built on the south side of the church the following year. Popular hiking destinations within 100 meters beyond the boundary of the municipality are the ruins Frohnburg and the lookout tower on the Wisenberg.

The Wisner Town Seal was introduced in 1925 and is derived from the froburgischen insignia. The counts of Froburg led an eagle in the shield, which found its way into various municipal coat of arms in the region, including Waldenburg BL.
