Władysław of Oświęcim

Wladislaus of Auschwitz (also Ladislaus von Teschen Auschwitz; Władysław of Auschwitz; * 1275/1280, † 1321/1322 ), was Duke of Teschen and 1314/15 bis 1321/22 Duke of Auschwitz. He came from the Teschen branch of the Silesian Piast dynasty.

Life

His parents were Duke Mesko I of Teschen and his wife, who is not known by name. 1304 /09, with Władysław married Euphrosyne († 1327 ), daughter of Duke Bolesław II of Masovia. The marriage came

  • John I; ∞ 1 with NN, ∞ 2 after 1358 Salome of Reuss († 1400)
  • Anna († 1354 ); ∞ with the Hungarian nobles Tamás Szécsényi († 1354 )

After the death of his father 1314/15 came into Wladislaus and his younger brother Casimir I the Duchy of Cieszyn. They shared it in such a way that for Wladislaus the area of Auschwitz has been released and the Duchy of Teschen reduced as the residence town of Cieszyn was the second-born Kazimir I.. This Wladislaus was the first Duke of Auschwitz. He died about 1321/22; his body was buried in the church of the Dominican convent at Auschwitz.
