Władysław Tajner

Władysław Tajner ( born September 17, 1935 in Goleszów, † February 27, 2012 in Cieszyn ) was a Polish ski jumper and ski coach.

Career

International career

Tajner began his career as an alpine ski racer. He won in 1951 the Polish Junior Champion title in the giant slalom. A little later he moved to the ski jumping, where he won his first title at the Polish Championships in 1956. Then he got a starting place for the Olympic Winter Games 1956 in Cortina d' Ampezzo. Despite the short time he injured before the games at a staircase fall, he started on the normal hill and reached by jumps of 74 and 76.5 meters the 16th Place.

In December Tajner started at the Four Hills Tournament 1956/57. Already at the opening event on the Schattenbergschanze in Oberstdorf, he clearly proved thereby its strength and reached the 15th place. Also on the Bergiselschanze in Innsbruck, he landed again in 15th His best individual result of the tour, he reached the New Year's competition in Garmisch -Partenkirchen. On the Grand Olympic ski jump, he jumped to 10th place. After another good 20th place on the Paul- Ausserleitner hill in Bischofshofen he finished the tour in ninth place overall.

A little later showed Tajner a mixed performance in the fourth Swiss Springer tour. So he jumped in Arosa three meters further than the former hill record, but he crashed on landing. Upon completion of the tour, he won his second national title at the Polish Championships. In the same year he performed at the ski flying in Planica with 114 meters a new Polish record, who had several years of existence.

In the following winter in the Four Hills Tournament 1957/58 he was unable to match the achievements of the previous year and reached streaky jump only the 29th place overall. But with the Polish Championships short time later, he again proved his class and secured his third national title in a row. However, it was also his last title. Only two bronze medals in 1959 and 1960, he won again. In the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 1958 he jumped from the normal hill at 59.5 and 64.5 meters, reaching the 22th place.

In 1959 he competed in the ski jumping at Kulm in Tauplitz in ski flying. When flying at 110 meters, he fell and drew to serious injury. Despite the meantime, he still reached the 12th place. At the Olympic Winter Games in 1960 in Squaw Valley Tajner started again on the normal hill. With jumps of 78.5 and 79.5 meters he reached rank 31 Previously Tajner had broken the meniscus in his knee in training, but still started the competition.

In the Nordic World Ski Championships 1962 in his adopted hometown of Zakopane Tajner got no starting place. With the launch of the Four Hills Tournament 1962/63 he finally gave his international farewell. He finished the tour again ranked 30 overall. His best individual result was ranked 23 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen.

After the active career

1971 moved Tajner to Austria, where he took a job at Skifabrikanten Atomic in Altenmarkt im Pongau. Only a year later he moved to the United States. There he lived for 17 years in Carson City, Nevada and worked as Aufzugsingeneur. In 1988 he returned to Poland and took over the club Brenna Beskid the job of junior trainer.

Tajner, who was married twice, had the Polish and U.S. citizenship and lived until his death in Ustrori. He was the uncle of the successful jumper and coach Wojciech Tajner. His brother Leopold Tajner, who collected as Nordic combined international success is the grandfather of Tomisław Tajner.
