Wolf-Dietrich von Xylander

Wolf Dietrich Ritter and Edler von Xylander ( born April 9, 1903 in Munich, † February 15, 1945 at Struppen ) was a German officer during the Weimar Republic and the period of National Socialism. His father was the later Major General Rudolf Ritter von Xylander.

Life and career

After graduating from the Wilhelmsgymnasium Munich Xylander joined on 1 May 1921 in the Army and came to the 19th ( Bavarian ) Infantry Regiment. In this he was promoted on March 1, 1925 Lieutenant. In 1925/26 he was transferred for a few years in the 11th Company to Kempten im Allgäu and there promoted to Lieutenant on 1 February 1928. In the spring of 1932 he came to the regimental headquarters in Munich.

In 1933 he was ordered to the Military Academy and promoted to captain on 1 June 1934. On 1 September 1935 he was transferred to the General Staff of the Army and used in the third division at the Quartermaster IV. Also officially sent on March 1, 1937 there, he was authorized to wear the uniform of the General Staff. He was also promoted to Major iG 1939.

Shortly before the outbreak of the Second World War, during the mobilization, he was born on August 26, 1939 Third General Staff Officer of the 206th Infantry Division. In early June 1940, he was First General Staff Officer (Ia ) in the Staff of the 30th Infantry Division. This he did with the second part of the western campaign and afterwards remained with the Division in France. On 1 December 1940 he was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel.

At the end of the early 1941 moved the bar to the east and to the beginning of summer 1941, he took with the 30th Infantry Division in the attack on northern Russia. Already in early August 1941, he was replaced and the First General Staff Officer ( Ia) of the 2nd Army appointed.

On 25 November 1942 he was transferred to the reserve leader and promoted on 1 January 1943, Oberst iG. Three weeks later - on 19 January 1943 - became chief of the General Staff of the XLIX. Mountain Corps in the Caucasus. On 1 June 1943 he was Chief of the General Staff of the 17th Army. On 1 January 1944 he was promoted to major general, but put in a reserve leader and then to the General Staff of Army Group North Ukraine again already on July 9, 1944. In July 1944 he was Chief of Staff of the Army Group. On December 1, 1944 promoted to lieutenant general, he was in January 1945, Chief of the General Staff of Army Group Centre. In this role, he is then crashed in February 1945 with the fatal plane.
